Walgreens, a major US pharmacy retailer, is taking steps to increase diversity in clinical trials by partnering with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).
Clinical trials are a vital part of medical research, but they often do not represent the diverse populations that they are meant to serve.
This is because clinical trial participants are usually people who can afford to take time off work, travel and pay for treatments. This means that many groups of people, who have different diseases and live in different communities, are excluded from clinical trials.
This can lead to inaccuracies in how new treatments work for different populations and prevent some communities from being able to access life-saving treatments.
Walgreens’s partnership with the National Institutes of Health is a three-year initiative that aims to increase diversity in clinical trials. The partnership will focus on increasing minority representation as well as participation by women and people with disabilities.
Walgreens’s initiative is part of a larger push by the NIH to make clinical trials more diverse.
There is a need to diversify clinical trials to make sure that the results are not biased. Diversity is so important for clinical trials because it helps us understand the different health needs across different demographics. When designing a clinical trial, you should have a diverse group from different backgrounds to make sure the results are generalizable.
The goal of this program is to provide people with the knowledge they need to make an informed decision about whether or not they want to participate in a clinical trial.
Many people are unaware of what clinical trials are and how they work. They may also be unaware of the benefits that can come from participating in one.
This program aims to help by providing information tailored for different types of audiences, including patients and caregivers, medical professionals, and members of the general public.
The company will be working with the Universities in North America to recruit more African-American and Latino participants for clinical trials and will also provide scholarships for minority students in need of financial support.
This partnership will not only provide more diverse participants for clinical trials but it will also offer an opportunity for education and career advancement to minority students.
In this partnership, Walgreens will provide the NIH/NIMHD with a grant to support their efforts to increase diversity in clinical research. The NIH/NIMHD will provide Walgreens with access to the data they have on their diverse population, which is a win-win situation for both parties. Walgreens gets access to more data on diverse populations and the NIH/NIMHD gets funding for their efforts in increasing diversity in clinical research.
This partnership will allow the two organizations to collaborate on research and share data, while at the same time, Walgreens will provide access to medication for those who may not otherwise be able to access it.
